This course is a minimum of eight (8) hours and meets the requirement for applying for a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit through the Department of Safety. The course consists of at least four hours of classroom instruction, which includes Safety, Nomenclature, Law and Shooting principles. The Shooting Range portion is also at least four hours and covers principles of personal protection, shooting fundamental drills, and the actual qualification course. The qualification uses forty-eight rounds of ammunition but one (100) hundred rounds of ammunition are required to participate in the class. Students must wear eye and ear protection. A belt holster for strong-hand is preferred for this course. No shoulder or cross-draw holsters allowed. The handgun used to qualify must be quality manufactured. This class is taught twice per month with a cost of $65.00 dollars. (A discount for couples or groups of five or more.)

BEGINNING NRA CLASSES:

Instruction is tense and fast-paced, precision shooting, shooting on the move, cover and concealment. Real-life situations are simulated, low light conditions with and without flashlight. Weapon control, close and extremely close encounters. Target scanning and quick identification. Designed to bring out the student’s maximum potential for shooting a handgun under stress. This an eight to ten hour course requiring three hundred to three hundred fifty rounds of ammunition. This course allows you to practice how you will carry your concealed handgun, (draw stroke) whether it is in a purse, brief case, etc. Safety and correct gun handling will be stressed and expected throughout the course. Students will be trained in the latest techniques in defense marksmanship. Tactical training is conducted in a realistic manner. Cost $90.00 dollars.

INSTRUCTOR COURSES ARE OFFERED FOUR TIMES A YEAR.

Classes are taught by Leroy Farris, a National Rifle Association certified instructor in Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle, Home Firearm Safety, and Personal Protection with more than 14 years of experience. Further, he is licensed by the State of Tennessee as a State of Tennessee Handgun Instructor and has been appointed as a Training Counselor by the National Rifle Association. He is a state certified Hunter Education Instructor, a graduate of the San Francisco Police Academy, San Francisco, California and the Yavapai Firearms Academy Ltd. A certified Glock Armorer. A former Military Instructor with the United States Army Military Police School and worked as a criminal investigator in the United States Army. He was the NCOIC of the Range and Traffic operations at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Further, his school is licensed, insured, and certified.. He attended numerous firearm courses during the past twenty years and is a member of the American Society for Training and Development.
